मानव शरीर की सामान्य त्वचा में उपरी (Epidermis) मध्य (Dermis) नीची (Hypodermis) परतें होती हैं, और Epidermis में लगभग पाँच सब-लेयर्स पाई जाती हैं। लेकिन होंठों के वर्मिलियन हिस्से में केवल तीन-से-पाँच कोशिकाओं की परत होती है (चेहरे की सामान्य त्वचा में लगभग 16-परत की तुलना में) जिस कारण होंठ की त्वचा अधिक पतली होती है, इसमें मेलानिन-रंगद्रव कम होता है तथा नीचे की रक्त-नसियाँ ऊपर की सतह के करीब होती हैं, इसलिए होंठ हल्के लाल या गुलाबी दिखते हैं। #riyansh2812 | Gk हिंदी में
